Dr. Sfera graduated from medical school in 1980 and has been practicing medicine for over forty years. From 1984 to 1989, Dr. Sfera worked in analytical psychotherapy research at the Carl Gustav Jung Institute of Los Angeles, where he participated in the production of a documentary entitled “A Matter of Heart” on the life and work of Swiss psychiatrist C.G. Jung.
In 1998, Dr. Sfera completed a psychiatry residency and a consultation and liaison psychiatry fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Dr. Sfera worked at USC as a principal investigator in schizophrenia research.
